George Atkinson began the Seven Summits challenge at the age of 11

A boy of 16 has become the youngest person in the world to scale the highest mountains in every continent.

George Atkinson, from Surbiton, south-west London, began the Seven Summits challenge by scaling Kilimanjaro in 2005 and completed it by reaching the top of Mount Everest on Thursday.

He broke the record of US teenager Johnny Collinson, who completed the challenge at the age of 17 last year.

Tycoon Peter Thiel offers two dozen students $100,000 each to develop technical projects.

Thiel himself hand-picked the winners based on the potential of their proposed projects to change the world.

All the proposals have a high technology angle but otherwise span many disciplines.

One winner wants to create a mobile banking system for the developing world. Another is working to create cheaper biofuels. One wants to build robots that can help out around the house.

The prizes come at a time when debate in the U.S. over the value of higher education has become heated.

School bans pupils from hugging

A school has banned pupils from giving each other high-fives, handshakes – and even hugs.

Governors imposed a ‘no contact’ rule which they say prevents fighting or bullying, reports The Sun.

Dayna Chong, 15, was thrown into detention for cuddling a female pal at The Quest Academy, in Croydon, South London.

Her mother, Anita, 33, from New Addington, said the policy was “extreme” and “ludicrous”.

If you are in an abusive relationship, you should consider getting out of it immediately. Abuse is not acceptable in any relationship, and both physical and mental abuse can lead to violence and result in someone getting hurt or killed. If you and your partner are seeking therapy or you feel you want to save your relationship, you can try to control the abusive behaviour and events by your actions.

Disregard verbal attacks. If your partner comes after you with verbal threats, try to ignore him or her and just walk away. If they confront you face to face, refuse to offer a rebuttal with negative talk. Let them know you are not going to contribute to fighting behaviour. Your partner may initiate a barrier around you to prevent you from leaving by threatening to take money away or hurt your children, explains the Center for Relationship Abuse Awareness.
